Abstract

Purpose: This study was to identified the nursing student¡¯s awareness of biomedical ethics and attitudes regarding human tissue donation and transplantation.
Method: In this descriptive study, a total of 670 nursing students were selected from 6 nursing colleges. They had taken nursing ethics course(3 credit hours) and clinical course in D city and the K-DO region. The period of data collection was from May 16, 2011 to June 8, 2011.
Result: The average point of awareness of biomedical ethics in nursing students was 2.94, and the attitudes regarding human tissue donation and transplantation was 3.72. There was a significant correlation between biomedical ethics and attitudes regarding human tissue donation and transplantation(r=.199, p<.001).
Conclusion: Nursing students showed positive attitudes toward awareness of biomedical ethics, human tissue donations and transplantations. Also the higher level of awareness of biomedical ethics was, the more positive attitude toward human tissue donation and transplantations nursing students showed.
